What A1, A2, B1, B2 and C1 mean.

Levels help us understand your starting point, organize the path and measure progress. They are not a cage: at Verbivia I use them as a practical reference to adapt lessons to your real goals.

A0

Before the first level

For students starting from zero or for people who feel they never built a clear foundation.

You can

  • Recognize isolated sounds and words.
  • Understand greetings and very common expressions.
  • Start building very simple sentences.

We work on

  • Basic pronunciation.
  • Essential vocabulary.
  • First questions and answers.

Before moving on

  • You can introduce yourself very simply.
  • You understand basic classroom instructions.
  • You can build short sentences with support.
A1

First foundations

The goal is to communicate simple needs and understand clear phrases in very familiar situations.

You can

  • Introduce yourself and share personal information.
  • Ask for and give basic information.
  • Talk about likes, routines and simple needs.

We work on

  • Frequent verbs and structures.
  • Questions, negative forms and useful phrases.
  • Pronunciation and slow listening practice.

Before moving on

  • You can maintain a short exchange.
  • You form simple sentences with less support.
  • You recognize basic vocabulary in context.
A2

Simple communication

You start handling everyday situations, although you still need support and time.

You can

  • Talk about travel, shopping, food, schedules and plans.
  • Describe simple experiences.
  • Understand clear and predictable messages.

  • Basic past and future forms.
  • Simple connectors.
  • More practical vocabulary.

Before moving on

  • You can explain a simple situation.
  • You understand slow conversations about familiar topics.
  • You start correcting frequent mistakes.
B1

Initial independence

You can communicate with more autonomy and sustain conversations about familiar topics.

  • Narrate experiences and tell simple stories.

More fluent conversation

You work on expressing yourself more naturally, understanding native speakers better and defending ideas.

Precision, nuance and autonomy

The goal is not perfection, but flexible, precise and natural communication.

You can

  • Express yourself with ease on complex topics.
  • Use nuance, irony, emphasis and register.
  • Understand long or demanding materials.

We work on

  • Finer vocabulary and natural expressions.
  • Advanced correction.
  • More precise speaking and writing.

Before moving on

  • You adapt your language to the context.

Not sure about your level?

That is completely normal. In the first contact or during the first lesson, I can guide you with questions, a short conversation and simple exercises. The goal is not to guess a perfect label, but to start from a clear point.
